boat trip to Skellig Island Kerry

One of the most mysterious and fascinating of our local attractions is the Skellig Islands, UNESCO World Heritage Site. Skellig Michael and Small Skellig are located seven sea miles (12km) on the Atlantic Coast of Kerry. It was the chosen destination for a small group of ascetic monks who, in their pursuit of greater union with God, withdrew from civilization to this remote and inaccessible place and built a monastery on the precipitous rock giving rise to one of the most dramatic examples of the extremes of Christian Monasticism, sometime between the sixth and eight centuries.

The Small Skellig is the second largest Gannet colony in the world and is also home to thousands of puffins, guillemots and cormorants. It is certainly one of those things that you tick off your list of Things to Do and of course Star Wars was filmed here. The view of Skellig Michael rising out of the sea is truly an awe-inspiring sight and this boat trip will be an unforgettable experience. We at Wave Crest can arrange a boat trip for you.

Boat trips generally run from mid-May to mid-September, weather permitting of course.
